When a girl child is born, her ovaries already contain thousands of immature ova (or eggs) which are contained in immature follicles. At the age of puberty, one follicle develops into a mature ovum (oregg). It pinches off from the surface of the ovary and enters the fallopian tube. This process is termed as ovulation.
