Any process in which oxygen combines with an element or substance, either slowly, as in the rusting of iron, or rapidly, as in the burning of wood. The process by which electrons are removed from atoms or ions.

Oxidation is the loss of electrons during a reaction by a molecule ,atom or ion . Oxidation occurs when the oxidation state of a molecule,atom or ion is increased.
