Answer:

The term oxidation was originally used to describe reactions in which an element combines with oxygen.

 Example: -

The reaction between magnesium metal and oxygen to form magnesium oxide involves the oxidation of magnesium.

"OXIDATION"

oxidataion basically is the process by which a molecule/atom is oxidised.

Oxidation is the loss of electron during a guven process or state, it can be seen on any molecule, atom, ions.

It occurs by following methods:-

  • when the oxidation state of molecules is increased.

OXIDATION CAN BE DEFINED FURTHER AS :-

OIL:-

1)Oxygen is gain of electron.

2)Loss of hydrogen.

3) or adding of oxygen.

The opposite Reaction is called REDUCTION which is just opposite to OXIDATION.

WHAT HAPPENS IN OXIDATION?

As, stated above it just changes thestate of reaction by adding or deleting oxygen and hydrogen resp.

Some important points to note :-

1) Oxidation number of free electron is always "0".

2)the oxidation number of oxygens is -2 in othsr compinds but -1 in peroxides.
