oxidation may be define as a chemical process in which a substance gains oxygen or loss hydrogen
reduction may be define as a chemical process in which a substance gain hydrogen or loss oxygen
ex of oxidation- 4Na+O2=2N2O
ex of reduction - H2S+cl2= 2HCl

Oxidation reaction is define a process in which oxygen and electronegative element is added .It is also define as a process in which hydrogen or electropositive element are removed......
In the term of electronic concept oxidation is a process in which loss of electron takes place

EXample of oxidation is

1) Na + O2 ------------> Na2O (addition of oxygen)

Reductions reaction is define as a process in which hydrogen and electropositive element are added ..It is also define as a process in which Oxygen and electronegative element are remove...In term of electronic concept reduction is a process in which gain of electron take place..

Example
1) Na + H2 ------------> NaH ( addition of hydrogen)
