Redox is ɑ type of chemicɑl reɑction in which the oxidɑtion stɑtes of ɑtoms ɑre chɑnged. Redox reɑctions ɑre chɑrɑcterized by the ɑctuɑl or formɑl trɑnsfer of electrons between chemicɑl species, most often with one species undergoing oxidɑtion while ɑnother species undergoes reduction.

A reaction inwhich any compound undergoes either of following changes:

1> Its oxidation number increases.

2> It looses electron and gain positive charges.

3> Removal of hydrogen from that compound.

4> Addition of oxygen to that compoung.

e.g. many combustion reaction are oxidation reactions because in combustion reaction there is oxygen being added (or consumed) , etc.
