The oxidation state of Fe in Mohr salt is +2.

Suraj1023: Can u explain it plz
siddhartharao77: Mohr's salt = Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2.6H2O --------------- (1)

Oxidation nos of Fe is given as: x
Oxidation nos of NH4 = +1
Oxidation nos of SO4 = -2
Oxidation nos of H = +1
Oxidation nos of O = -2

Substitute values in (1) we get

x + 2(+1) + 2(-2) + 6(2(1) - 2) = 0
x + 2 - 4 + 6[2 - 2] = 0
x - 2 + 6(0) = 0
x - 2 + 0 = 0
x - 2 = 0
x = 2

Answer : The oxidation state of Fe in mohr salt is, (+2)

Explanation :

The formula of the mohr salt is, FeSO_4(NH_4)_2SO_4.6H_2O

Mohr salt is also known as ammonium ferrous sulfate or ammonium iron(II)sulfate. It is the inorganic compound which containing two different cations which are Fe^{2+} and NH_4^+. It is classified as a double salt of ferrous sulfate and ammonium sulfate.

In ferrous sulfate, sulfate is a polyatomic anion which has (-2) charge. So, (+2) charged iron is needed to neutralize the (-2) charge of sulfate ion.

Hence, the oxidation state of Fe in mohr salt is, (+2)
