In the history of earth liberation of free oxygen by cyanobacteria is considered as a revolutionary change. It includes some major changes like

1. Atmosphere of the earth gets reduced to oxidizing as because possibilities of further chemical evolution is now finished, because chemical evolution always takes place in reducing environment.

2. Free O2, oxidized CH4, & NH3 to form gases like CO2, N2, and H20.

3. Accumulation of free oxygen is formed.

4. Some prokaryotes are being converted into aerobic mode for the purpose of respiration and this gives approx 20 times more energy than that of anaerobic respiration.
