  2. It is formed at higher levels of atmosphere.
  • The high energy UV rays split some molecules of oxygen into free oxygen atoms. These atoms are very reactive and combine with molecular oxygen present in the atmosphere to form ozone. The chemical reaction is given below
  • O_{2} + UV radiations -------> [O] + [O]
  • [O] + O_{2} ------------> O_{3}

In this way ozone is formed at higher levels of atmosphere.
