Ozone is a molecule formed by three atoms of oxygen.
ozone at the higher level of the atmosphere is the product of the uv radiation acting on the oxygen molecule. Ozone is a deadly poison. However at the higher level of atmosphere,it performs an essential function. It shields the surface of the earth from the ultra violet radiation from the sun. This radiation is highly damaging-for example it causes skin cancer in human beings.
