Heyaa...

In unfavorable conditions the cell becomes non motile then protoplasmic content divide into 2 to 4 daughter protoplast.

These daughter cells fails to develop their flagella,Instead of releasing out, the protoplast divides into small daughter protoplast.

as a result number of cells is increased in the parent cell gets gelatinized this phase is called as palmella stage

It is a stage occurring under unfavourable conditions in Euglena. Under unfavourable conditions the flagellum is thrown off and a number of Euglenae come together and become embedded in a gelatinous mass on the water surface. Each Euglena secretes a double layered cyst. Euglenae now divide by longitudinal binary fission again and again. As a result 16 to 32 daughter forms are produced within a single cyst. The gelatinous mass with the cysts is known as palmella stage. This resembles the palmella stage of many algae. Later the daughter individuals develop flagella and come out of the gelatinous mass and grow into adult Euglenae.
