There are 8 classes according to their functions in a sentence. The words are divided in 8 classes. These are called PARTS OF SPEECH.

1. NOUN
→ a noun is a word, used as the name of a person, place and thing.
Example :- Agra, chair, Swati etc.
Example in sentences :-
• Swati is a lovely girl. (Noun - Swati)
• He lives in USA. (Noun - USA)
Types of noun :-
>> PROPER NOUN <<
this type of noun is the name of a place, person or thing.
Example - Mumbai, book, Ram etc.
>> COMMON NOUN <<
It is the noun, given to every person, place and thing.
Example - girl, lion, pen etc
>> ABSTRACT NOUN <<
It is the noun, which we can only feel but can't touch.
Example - honesty, strength, courage etc.
>> COLLECTIVE NOUN <<
collective noun is the name of a number of collection of things like a group.
Example - class, army, fleet etc.
>> MATERIAL NOUN <<
It is the noun of the material of which things are made.
Example - gold, oil, wood etc.
2. PRONOUN
A pronoun is a word used instead of noun.
Example - on, my, I etc.
Example in sentence :-
Swati is a girl.

=> She is a girl.
3. VERB
A verb is a word which describes an action.
Example - run, painting, sings etc.
Example in sentences :-
• He is painting. (Verb - painting)
• They run fast. (Verb - run)
• Swati sings sweetly. (Verb - sings)
4. ADJECTIVE
The words which describes noun are called adjectives.
Example - big, sweet, nice etc.
Example in sentences :-
• Swati is a sweet girl. (Swati - adjective)
• his handwriting is very nice. (Nice - adjective)
• this tree is big. (Big - adjective)
5. ADVERB
The word which describes the verb is called adverb.
Example - slowly, loudly, brightly etc.
Example in sentences :-
• she runs slowly. (Slowly - adverb)
• he talks loudly. (Loudly - adverb)
• the star shines brightly. (Brightly - adverb)
6. PREPOSITION
the word which makes relation between two words is called proposition.
Example - on, behind, near etc.
Example in sentences :-
• book is on the table. (On - preposition)
• my house is near my school. (Near - preposition)
• dog is behind the tree. (Behind - preposition)
7. CONJUCTION
the word which joins two sentences are called conjuction.
Example - and, but, or etc.
Example in sentences :-
• I love chocolate and candy. (And - conjuction)
• his voice is good but not clear. (But - conjuction)
• you want coffee or tea. (Or - conjuction)
8. INTERJECTION
A word which express any feeling or reaction.
Example - bravo! , Oh! , Hurrah! Etc.
Example in sentences :-
• bravo! Well done.
• oh! I made a mistake.
• Hurrah! We won.
