Pasteurization, inventedby Louis Pasteur in 1864, kills harmful bacteria that tend to grow in dairy products, especially in the absence of refrigeration. At the time, the discoverywas rather revolutionary; it allowed milk to be consumed less immediately and prevented many illnesses.Born on December 27, 1822, in Dole, France, Louis Pasteurdiscovered that microbes were responsible for souring alcohol and came up with the process of pasteurization, where bacteria is destroyed by heating beverages and then allowing them to cool.
