☆ In the wake of an acute food shortage in 1960s, prior to the Green Revolution. In the high incidence of poverty levels, as reported by NSSO in the mid 1970s, 3 important interventions programmes were introduced. One of them is PDS (PUBLIC DISTRUBUTION SYSTEM).

PUBLIC DISTRUBUTION SYSTEM

☆ The food procured by the FCI ( Food corporation of India) is distributed through government regulated ration shops among the poorer section of the society. This is called the PUBLIC DISTRUBUTION SYSTEM.

- There are all over 5.5 lakh Ration shops.
- The items are sold to people at a Lower price.

☆ These system had ensured Food security in India for the poorest sections of society.
