The Peloponnesian War was a group of battles fought between Athens and Spartans. The Delian League led by the Athens went to war with the Peloponnesian league led by Sparta. In the end, Sparta emerged as the clear victor and gained absolute control over the lands of Greece. One of the major reasons the war occurred was due to Sparta's fear of the growing Athenian influence. The two powers struggled to agree on their respective spheres of influence, absent Persia's influence.
