the peninsular plateau is the table land composed of the old crystalline igneous and metamorphic rocks it was formed due to the breaking and drifting of gondwanaland and thus making it a part of oldest landmass the plateau has brought and Shallow valleys and rounded hills one of the distinct features of Peninsular plateau is the black soil area known as Deccan trap this is of volcanic origin hence the rocks are igneous actually these rocks have denuded lovertime and are responsible for the formation of black soil the Aravali Hills lie on western and North Western margins of Peninsular plateau these are highly eroded Hills and r found as broken hills they extend from Gujarat to Delhi in a Southwest north east direction. the central Highlands- the part of Peninsular plateau lying in the north of Narmada river covering a major area of Malwa plateau is known as Central Highlands the Vindhyan range is bounded by central Highlands on South and Aravali on the Northwest the further westward extension gradually merges with sandy and Rocky desert of Rajasthan the flow of rivers draining this region namely the Chambal at the centre Betwa and the Kane is from Southwest Northeast does indicating the slope the central Highlands are wider in the west but never in the east full stop the eastward extensions of these plateau locally known as Bundelkhand and baghelkhand the Chota Nagpur Plateau makes for the eastward extension drained by Damodar River
