 square number or perfect square is  non-negative integer that is the square of an integer

It is the product (multiplication) of some integer with itself.
EG 1.
4 is a square number, since it can be written as 2 x 2 .
EG 2.
9 is a square number, since it can be written as 3 x 3 .

Usual notation for the square of a number n is not the product n x  n, but the equivalent to exponent n^2, usually pronounced as insquared.

The unit of area is unit square (1 × 1). Hence, a square with side length  n has area n^2.

Square numbers square roots is again an integer.

EG 3.
√9 = 3, so 9 is a square number.
