The perimeter of a figure is the total distance around the edge of the figure. For example, a square whose sides are 6 inches long has a perimeter of 6 x 4 = 24 inches because it has 4 sides 6 inches long. A rectangle whose length and width are 4 meters and 3 meters has a perimeterof 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 = 14 meters.
