Answer:

Repitition of properties after certain intervals is called periodicity of properties. If elements are arranged in increasing order of atomic number in the periodic table then elements repeat its properties after a definite interval.

Periodicity is defined as after a regular interval of time, the similar properties in a periodic table repeat periodically.

  • There are various physical and chemical properties of elements that vary in the periodic table across the group (from top to bottom), and the period ( from left to right).
  • But after a certain interval of time, these properties show a periodic repeat.
  • For example- on placing elements in the order of their increasing atomic number, then the electronic configuration (E.C.) or the number of valence electrons in a valence shell is repeated, such that the elements with the same number of valence shell electrons are placed in the same group.
  • And, due to the presence of the same number of valence electrons, in a particular group, all its elements show almost similar physical and chemical properties.
