✔️PERMANENT ZAMEENDARI SYSTEM:
➡️Permanent settlement was introduced in 1793 by Charles Cornwallis. According to this settlement, the East India Company fixed the rate of revenue to be paid by the ryots and peasants. The company appointed some zamindars who collected the revenue from their estate(it referred to a group of villages, sometimes an estate included 400 villages). The rate of revenue was fixed forever.
➡️This system failed to work because
• The revenue demands fixed by the company was extremely high as a result the peasants failed to pay the revenue. Also, the nature of soil, prices, etc. were not taken in account.
• Moreover, the agricultural prices were very low and dependence on monsoon was very high.
• The powers of zamindars were controlled by the company because it wanted them to live under its guidelines.
• The company feared that if agricultural prices rose in future then it wouldn't be able to claim the revenue on increased income of peasants.
• The zamindars were never able to pay all the revenue demands. The consequence was that a number of zamindars were auctioned.
➡️Due to these problems the company replaced this system with Ryotwari system in 1820s.
