What is persistance of vision?

persistence of image is the phenomenon which allows the optical images to persist in our eyes for about 0.1 second.
this allows concatenation of number of images into clear movements.
this is why even if the  frames of a video are just images, we see it as a continuous video.

The image formed on the retina persists for 1/16th of a second after we have stopped looking at the object. The ability of the eye to retain the image of the object for 1/16th of a second after we have stopped looking is called persistence of vision.


The phenomenon of the persistence of vision is employed in the motion picture projection.
