persistence of vision traditionally refers to the optical illusion that occurs when visual perception of an object does not cease for some some time after the rays of light proceeding from it have ceased to the enter the eye.

example-your eye and brain can hold on to a series of images long enough to form a single complete picture.

Example : suppose if a bus passes u, after it had gone also u have the image of the passed bus in ur eyes for few seconds.
