Personification is a figure of speech in which a thing, an idea or an animal is given human attributes. The non-human objects are portrayed in such a way that we feel they have the ability to act like human beings.

Personification is a form of  language in which something that is not human is given human characteristics. Personification is often used in poetry to enhance the meaning and beauty of poems. for example (these line are from a poem 'the brook by robert frost'):I murmur; I chatter etc. the brook cannot really do that but the sounds it makes are compared to human characteristics.
hope this helps :).
