We call it gas because it's short for gasoline. Gasoline is made from petroleum, but it's not exactly the same thing. In the US, we think of petroleum as more of a crude oil type substance. Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) also comes to mind. We get gas from gas stations. We also have diesel fuel, but it's different than gas. It's mostly used by large semi trucks and buses. Not all gas stations have diesel available. We don't really have a short name for it like servo. It's just a gas station here. To me, a servo is a motor/gearbox/sensor combination.
