Petroleum= petro(rock)+ olium (oil) which is in black colour that's why it is called black gold . Petroleum is nothing but crude oil taken out from subsurface sedimentary rocks. Because of its Black colour it is named as Black gold. Gold is used because without Petroleum it is difficult to live. We use Petroleum in our routine life directly and indirectly in different ways that's why it is termed as gold.
