pH is a number which helps to know if a substance is acidic ( acidity) or basic (bassicity ) and it's strength .
it's definition is negative logarithm of H+ ion concentration.
if the value is less than 7 , it is acidic and if it is more than 7 then it is basic. if the pH is 0 or more than 0 and less than 3 , it is a strong acid. if it is more than 11 and 14 or less than 14 , then it is a strong base. if it is 7 m it is neutral.
examples - pH of HCl is 1 and it is highly acidic. pH of NaOH is 14 and is highly basic. pH of water at 25 degrees celcius is 7 and is neutral
