It is the scale which measures the hydrogen ion concentration of a given solution. pH of a solution ranges from 7 to 14. If the solution shows the pH less than 7, then it is an acidic solution. If the pH is more than 7, then it is a basic solution. If it shows the pH nearing to 7 , then it is said to be a neutral solution.

NaCl------- acidic solution------ pH=1
NaOH-------basic solution--------pH=14
H2O(water)--------neutral----------pH=7.4
