the paper used to identify weather the liquid or gas is acidic or basic in nature is know as ph paper u can find them in your chemistry labs. when it is dipped in acid it turns red from blue.. and when put in basic liq. or gas it turns blue from red..

A pH indicator is a halochromic chemical compound added in small amounts to a solution so the pH of the solution can be determined visually. Hence, a pH indicator is a chemical detector for hydronium ions or hydrogen ions in the Arrhenius model.
