Phanerogams, Classification and its characteristic:

  • Phanerogams are multi-cellular, eukaryotic, advanced types of plants. They are well-differentiated plants which bear seeds.
  • They are also known as spermatophytes.
  • They are classified into two types including gymnosperms and angiosperms.
  • The non-flowering plants are called gymnosperms and flowering plants are angiosperms.

Characteristics of Gymnosperms are :

  • Seeds are not enclosed in an ovary ie.,  naked seeds.
  • They will not make fruits or flowers.

Characteristics of angiosperms are :

  • Seeds are present inside the ovary.
  • They will produce flowers/fruits.
