With the application of new technology or modern technique, any given substance produces an extra resource – that extra resource is called Phantom Pile. The name Phantom Pile suggests that it is technical knowledge that can drive extra resources hidden within the substance. In reality, this invisible extra resource was within the substance but man was not able to harness it due to inappropriate technology.

Let us look at some examples to know more about the term 'Phantom Pile'

  • for the production of one ton of pig iron, 5 tons of coals were required, but in the contemporary world, 2 tons of coals are enough to produce 1 ton of pig iron. In other words, 5 tons of coals can produce 2.5 tons of pig iron. In other words, 5 tons of coals can produce 2.5 tons of pig iron.
  • So, the function-ability of coal has increased 2.5 times. We observe that the same substance is yielding 2.5 times more energy resources. That excess hidden resource, which was unknown or invisible before, is called Phantom Pile. This concept is perhaps one of the greatest contributions of Prof. Zimmerman which, in later years, provoked scientists to emphasize more and more the necessity of resource conservation.
