Phenolphthalein is naturally colourless and works differently then litmus paper. Also, it turns in pink colour in an alkaline solution or base. Moreover, the compound remains colourless in acids but starts to turn pink on pH 8.2 and continues to turn bright purple in strong bases...

Answer:

  • Phenolphthalein is an organic dye & its solution is colourless-When used as indicator, its colour changes to deep pink colour on basic solution & remain colourless in acidic or neutral solutions.

  • Almost all metals & non-metals combine with oxygen to form oxides

2Mg + 0₂ → 2 Mgo

Magnesium Magnesium oxide

4Na +0₂ → 2Na₂0

Sodium Sodium Oxide

C + o₂ →Co₂

Carbon Carbon dioxide

  • Some of these oxides dissolve in water, others do not. The oxides of non metal, when dissolved in water form acids.

C₂O + H₂O → H₂ C03

Carbon dioxide Carbonic acid
