What is phenotype and genotype and some examples?
Answers
Answer:
Explanation:
Phenotype = physical appearance Example = tall and dwarf trait Genotype = genetic make up. Example= TT,Tt,tt
Phenotype:
This term was coined by Johannsen. The physical or observable characteristics of an organism. This term is used for describing the external expression of a particular character.
Genotype:
This term was also coined by Johannsen. This term is used for describing the actual genetic composition or genetic makeup. The phenotypes of two plants may be similar but their genotypes may be different.
Example:
The tall plants of both and generation have the same phenotype. However, their genotypes are different. The tall plant of the generation is homozygous (TT) whereas the tall plant of the generation is heterozygous (Tt). Thus, in the monohybrid inheritance, the generation results in two types of ratios. Phenotypic ratio (3:1) for dominant and recessive characters and genotypic ratio (1:2:1) for the homozygous dominant, heterozygous dominant and homozygous recessive conditions.
