Definition of photoperiodism:

  • During the day time, plants psychologically responses when they receive lights from nature, some total of this is called photoperiodism.
  • The development responses of plants also refer to it.
  • It enables plants to flower in various seasons.
  • There are three types of photoperiodism like- long day plant, short day plant and day neutral plant.

  • Photoperiodism is the change in the physiological behaviour of a plant to the alternating light and the dark circles.  
  • For example the blooming of the flowers is dependent on the alternate light and the dark cycles.  
  • The plants are divided into 3 major categories depending upon their response to the photoperiodic cycles; they are the short day plants, long day plants and the day neutral plants.  
  • The blooming of the flowers differs within this group.
