Photorespiration is the process of respiration done by the plant besides photosynthesis. It is the opposite of photosynthesis in the sense that glucose is used up; oxygen is taken in and carbon dioxide is given out. The cell organelle involved in it is the mitochondria.

It is a respiratory process in many higher plants by which they tame up oxygen in the light and give out carbon dioxide , contrary to the general pattern of photosynthesis .

The organelles involved in photosynthesis are chloroplasts, peroxisome and mitochondria
