Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process of synthesis of food in plants using inorganic raw materials (Water and Carbondioxide)

It involves:

  • Absorption of Light Energy
  • Converting light energy into chemical energy
  • Splitting of water molecules into protons and oxygen atoms
  • The protons are further used to reduce Carbondioxide to Carbohydrates

Requirements

  • Water
  • Sunlight
  • Chloroplast
  • Carbon Dioxide

Photosynthesis occurs as Light Reaction and Dark Reaction

Light Reaction

  • Also known as Biosynthetic Phase
  • Known for producing ATP and NADPH
  • Occurs in grana of chlorophyll

Dark Reaction

  • Known as PhotoChemical Phase
  • Use of products released in the latter phase
  • Occurs in stroma of Chlorophyll

Products are Glucose,Water and Oxygen
