chlorophyll is a green pigment on the leaf that gives leaves its green color it also does a very important thing and that is that it absorbs sunlight which is important because sunlight is energy which the plants NEED.

the soil is what the plants are planted in and soil has nutrients which go up to the leave through the stem and then everything: the CO2, energy and nutrients get mixed up and form glucose (food of plants).
