Photosynthesis is the process by which autotrophs convert light energy into chemical energy , which is later used to fuel cellular activities. The chemical energy is stored in forms of sugars , which is created from water and carbon dioxide.

Photosynthesis also applies to other organism besides green plant. These include various prokaryotes such as cyanobacteria , purple bacteria and green sulfur bacteria.
