Photosynthesis:-

The process by which autotrophs take in substances from the outside ( in the form of Carbondioxide and water ) and convert them into stored forms of energy ( Carbohydrates) in the pressence of sunlight and chlorophyll.

Note:

  • Carbohydrates are utilized for providing energy to the plant . The Carbohydrates which are not used immediately are stored in the form of starch , which serves as the internal energy reserve to be used as and when required by the plant.

The following events takes place during photosynthesis:-

  • Absorption of light energy ( by chlorophyll)
  • Splitting of water molecules into Hydrogen and oxygen ( photolysis of water ).
  • Conversion of lighy energy to chemical energy ( im the from of ATP and NADPH).
  • Reduction of CO2 to Carbohydrates ( assimilation of carbon )

Answer

  • Photosynthesis, the process by which greeplants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. during photosynthesis in green plants, light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds
