Photosynthesis is the process in which plants prepare their own food in the presence of sunlight,carbon dioxide ,water and mineral salts . Plants produce food in the presence of chlorophyll of leaves. The reaction is as follows :-

6 H2O + 12H2O => C6H12O6 + 6H2O + O2

Four events mainly occur during photosynthesis. They are:

✓ Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll.

✓ Conversion of light energy to chemical energy.

✓Photolysis of water i.e. splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.

✓Reduction of CO2 to carbohydrates.
