Definition :-

A phrase may consists of one or more than more words with perfect coordination and having complete sense.

Explain :-

There are five types of phrases depending upon the head word of the phrase.

1. Noun Phrase

  • It is a group of words with head words used in the place of noun as a subject, object, complement and apposition.

2. Prepositional Phrase

  • It can be used as a complement and adjunct in a sentence.
  • (Adjunct - Generally adverbial and adverbs are used as adjunct.)

3. Verb Phrase

  • One or more than one verbs may forn a verb phrase to indicate a complete action.

4. Adjectival Phrase

  • It can be before and after used to modify any phrase.

5. Adverbial Phrase

  • It is used to indicate time, place, manner, result, reason, purpose, composition, condition, concession etc.
