Answer :

Phycomycetes -

  • It is a type of fungi.
  • They are mainly found in aquatic habitats.
  • They can also be found in moist places or as parasites on plants.
  • The mycelium is aseptate and coenocytic.
  • Asexual reproduction in phycomycetes takes place by zoospores which are motile and aplanospores which are non motile.
  • These spores are endogenously produced in a fruiting body called sporangium.
  • The sexual reproduction in phycomycetes takes place by the fusion of two gametes to form zygospores.
  • The gametes if similar in morphology, are called isogamous and if dissimilar in morphology, are called anisogamous or oogamous.
  • Examples include Rhizopus, Mucor, Albyco, etc.

Kingdom Fungi -

  • This is a unique Kingdom of heterotrophic organisms.
  • They prefer to grow in warm and humid places.
  • The cell walls of fungi are composed of chitin and polysaccharides.
  • The different types of Fungi include -
  1. Phycomycetes
  2. Ascomycetes
  3. Basidiomycetes
  4. Deuteromycetes
