PHYLLOTAXY

The mode of arrangement of mature leaves on the stem or its branches is called phyllotaxy. Its objectives is to expose every leaf in light

IT IS OF FOLLOWING TYPES >

1). SPIRAL

In this type of phyllotaxy a node bears only one leaf. Successive leaves may occur on opposite sides to form two alternative rows

2). OPPOSITE

In it two leaves occur on each node. it may be opposite and superposed or opposite and decussate

3). WHORLED

More than two leaves occur at each node for example as in alstonia
