When you tear a paper, it becomes
smaller in size. But still it remains a
paper. When an inflated balloon is
left in sun for sometime, it deflates
. Although its shape changes but
no new substance is formed.
Similarly, when we put water in
freezer, ice is formed. Ice is the
solid state of water. There is no
change in the structure of water
molecules here.
In all these activities, there was a change in some physical property, but no new substance was formed. Such changes in which the physical properties of matter change without any new substance being formed are called physical changes.
