Physics is a branch of science which deals with the study of laws of nature.

It is a subject because we need to study it in depth.

Physics- what is physics, what is it meant for, with whom does it deal with???

Physics is simply that branch of science which deals with the day to day physical phenomenons and their working.

We study physics for knowing what happens around us, why does objects fall on ground, what is friction and all these phenomenons are dealt by the help of science particularly called as physics.

Just like Mathematics, Chemistry, English etc Physics is huge and huge things are not studied in topics, not in chapters but they are studied as a subject. So is it the case with physics, in order to learn it and know it, we have to study it by taking it as a subject.
