Answer:

There is only one science and that is nature.

That’s a lot for one person to learn, so we break it up into bite sized chunks and name them differently.

One of the first exercises you learn in “science” is sorting things into groups - looking for patterns. The language of patterns is mathematics, so that is relevant to all sciences.

How things move is, roughly put in a box labelled Physics.

How substances change into new substances is, roughly placed in a box called Chemistry.

If something is alive, we put it in a box called Biology.

Once you open these boxes, they are split into compartments and shelves, so chemistry can be Physical chemistry, Inorganic chemistry or Organic chemistry.

Sometimes we find something that belongs in two or more boxes, so, for example we have biochemistry that belongs in biology as well as chemistry, or thermodynamics of reactions that can also go into both the Physics and Chemistry boxes.

The divisions are artificial because they were invented by people - but nature doesn’t fit neatly into boxes so we get these cross-overs all the time. The boxes make it easier to learn, but always remember, the divisions are not real but imaginary.
