Placenta is a structure that establishes firm connection between the foetus and the mother. From the outer surface of the chorion a number of finger like projections known as chorionic villi grow into the tissue of the uterus. ... The placenta, thus, serves as the nutritive, respiratory and excretory organ of the foetus.

HEY MATE

It is composed of fetal blood vessels and trophoblasts which are organized into finger-like structures called chorionic villi. The chorionic villi are surrounded by the intervillous space, which is the part of the placenta surrounding the chorionic villi that contains maternal blood.
