The placenta acts to provide oxygen and nutrients to the fetus, whilst removing carbon dioxide and other waste products. It metabolises a number of substances and can release metabolic products into maternal and/or fetal circulations.

Jennydsilva: Placenta is a disk like structure embedded in the uterine wall which acts as a link between maternal tissue and embryo. It contains blood spaces in maternal side while villi on the embryo all side. It's main aim is to : provide nutrition to embryo, exchange of gases, excretion,etc.

Placenta is a special tissue connection between embroy and mother's body.

Functions:-
It provide glucose and oxygen to pass from the mother to the embroy.

It also collects the waste generated by the embroy and trasfer to the mother's blood for removel.
