  • It is a disc-like structure embedded in the uterine wall in a female. The embryo is surrounded by Villi and on the mother's side are blood spaces.
  • In case of a pregnant female, it helps in the transport of glucose and oxygen from mother to the embryo. The embryo also generates waste substances which are eliminated through the mother's body.
