it helps in transport of nutrients from mother to developing foetus and also from foetus to mother.

its main function is to produce foetus ejection reflex during parturation by stimulating anterior pituatry to release oxytocin

it alsa acts as endocrine part and releases many hormones like HCG ,HPL cortico throtropin ,estrogen ,progestrone .
