Placenta is a part inside the part of a woman's body where a baby grows (womb) which protects the baby and supplies the food through a tube (umbilical cord).
It is attached to the wall of the uterus, usually at the top or side.

The embryo gets the nutrition from the mother's blood with the help of a special tissue , known as placenta. It is attached to the uterine wall.

It contains villi on the embryo's side and blood spaces surrounding the villi on mother's side. It provides a large surface area for the glucose and oxygen to pass from the mother's side to the embryo. The developing embryo also generate waste substances which are then transferred into mother's blood through placenta.
