HEY!!

The placenta is an organ found only in mammals during development of foetus. It is made up of cells derived from both mother and foetus.

Functions of placenta are:-

1) Placenta helps to transfer nutrients from maternal blood into foetus.

2) It helps in getting oxygen from maternal blood into foetus and CO2 from foetus blood into the maternal blood.

3) Nitrogenous waste products produced in the embryo diffuse through the placenta into the maternal blood stream.

4) Placenta stores some fats, glycogen and iron.

5) Antibodies developed in the mother against certain diseases like measles, small pox, diphtheria pass from mother into the foetal blood through the placenta.
